April 6 is Deadline for Student Applications for SVU’s 2009 Anne Jones Scholarship Program |

| There is still a few days left for students to submit their applications for SVU’s 2009 Anne Jones Scholarship Program before the April 6 deadline. The Anne Jones Scholarship Fund of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound (SVU) was established in 2005 to provide an annual educational scholarship for a vascular ultrasound student of up to $2,500. First presented in June 2006, the scholarship honors the many contributions made to SVU and the vascular technology profession by Anne Jones, former SVU President (1985-1986) and former Chair of SVU's Government Relations Committee for several years. The purpose of the Anne Jones Scholarship is to provide a qualified student applicant with a monetary amount to further his/her education in vascular ultrasound and pursue a career in the vascular ultrasound profession. SVU members are urged to help support this annual scholarship by making an optional voluntary contribution to the Anne Jones Scholarship Fund with their 2009 SVU dues renewal payment or directly to SVU. In June 2008, the recipient of the Anne Jones Educational Scholarship was Stephanie Stupfel, a junior vascular ultrasound technology student at Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT) in Klamath Falls, Oregon. She received a $2,500 scholarship for the Fall 2008 school semester. 2009 ScholarshipThe fourth annual Anne Jones Educational Scholarship will provide up to a $2,500 scholarship for the fall 2009 school quarter or semester for a student's second year in an accredited vascular ultrasound technology program offering an associate degree, or for a student’s fourth year in an accredited vascular ultrasound program offering a BS degree. EligibilityStudent applicants for the Anne Jones Scholarship must meet the following eligibility requirements:
Selection CriteriaThe 2009 recipient of the Anne Jones Scholarship will be selected on the basis of the following criteria, which are listed in order of importance. ScholarshipThis criterion will be evaluated on the basis of the applicant's grade point average or its equivalent. A grade point average of not less than a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale will be required to be eligible for the scholarship. An official transcript from the applicant's school must be submitted to the SVU national office for him/her to be eligible for the scholarship. Career GoalsThis criterion will be evaluated by assessment of the applicant's typed essay submitted to the SVU national office. An applicant must submit a typed essay of up to 500 words or less that should specify the applicant's career objectives in the vascular ultrasound profession, and explain how the school's academic program curriculum will help prepare the student to achieve those career objectives. The essay must be submitted with the student’s 2009 scholarship application. RecommendationsEach applicant must include no more and no less than two typed letters of professional recommendation. Letters of recommendation can be attached to the application or submitted directly by the authors by email to the SVU national office at (AJonesScholarship@svunet.org). Extracurricular ActivitiesEach applicant's college and community activities, offices, awards, and work experience will receive due consideration. Financial NeedThe applicant's financial need also will receive due consideration and should be noted on their scholarship application. Failure to complyShould the scholarship recipient withdraw from the educational program, be expelled, fail to matriculate, or in any other way fail to comply with the requirements of the scholarship as stated in this document, it shall be the scholarship recipient's responsibility to ensure that all remaining funds are returned to the SVU national office within 90 days of the date of any such action. An Ad Hoc Anne Jones Scholarship Committee will review all of the submitted information and select the 2009 recipient of the education scholarship based on the above criteria. How to applyA completed 2009 Anne Jones Scholarship Application (including the student's school transcript, essay, letters of recommendation and C.V. or resume) must be received at the SVU national office by April 6, 2009 for consideration for the Fall 2009 education scholarship. Students submitting their applications must make arrangements to have their official college transcripts sent directly by their school to the SVU national office (AJonesScholarship@svunet.org). Students also should email or mail their scholarship applications to the SVU national office. No faxed scholarship applications will be accepted. The Scholarship Application and requested materials should be sent to the SVU national office by the April 6, 2009 deadline. Selection of 2009 Scholarship RecipientThe selection of the 2009 recipient of the SVU Anne Jones Scholarship will be done in May 2009 and announced at SVU's 2009 Annual Conference, June 11-13, 2000 in Denver, Colorado.
