Reminder to Affiliated Chapter Presidents

The following items are due to the SVU national office by January 31: 2008 Chapter dues payment, your 2008 officers list, complete current membership roster with full addresses, and copies of the Chapter Bylaws. Thank you to those Affiliated Chapters who have already submitted these items. If you have not sent this information to the SVU national office, please forward it by 1/31/08 by email to Missi McLean at mmclean@svunet.org. This information is necessary for us to send you updates of upcoming SVU events and information that concerns you and your chapter. Chapter dues and information can be mailed to SVU, Attention Missi McLean, 4601 Presidents Drive, Suite 260, Lanham, MD 20706. Thank you for your cooperation in obtaining this important Affiliated Chapter information.

New Regional Advisors

Our complement of Chapters Subcommittee Regional Advisors is complete. The new regional advisors are: Angela Jagan for the Midwest region; Ruth Manire for the Southeast region; Kari Olmsted for the Northwest region; and Virginia Vyniski for the Northeast region. Gail Size has graciously agreed to continue on as the Southwest regional advisor. Thank you and congratulations to all you ladies. If you would like to know who your advisor is or how you can contact her, please contact Chapters Subcommittee Chair Jeanette Flannery at jeflannery@sbhcs.com.

Chapter Meetings

Don’t forget to forward information regarding your chapter meetings to Margaret Park, parkm@ccf.org, or myself so that it can be included in our monthly e-Spectrum Chapters Subcommittee column. In doing so you may reach new technologists who may not have a local chapter. Your meeting information also may provide a means for their continuing education and a potential to attract new membership for your chapter. This avenue also gives other chapters information that might help them with topics to present at their meetings. Remember, SVU also has a Speaker’s Bureau that is available to all affiliated chapters and accessible on the SVU website homepage under “About SVU.”

It is always wonderful to hear from you, and hear how active you are. Our goal for 2008 is to keep the communication lines open and personally get to know each of our Chapters and their leadership. Don’t forget about the SVU Chapters Breakfast at the SVU 2008 Annual Conference in San Diego on Friday, June 6, from 7:00-8:15 am. We also are looking for Affiliated Chapters to make a contribution to SVU for the Chapters Breakfast. We are here to assist your group in any way that we can. Please forward any news about your Chapter or individual members for consideration in the Chapters column.

There’s still time for an SVU Affiliated Chapter to Sponsor a 2008 SVU Award

The following SVU Awards to be presented at the 2008 SVU Annual Conference in San Diego do not yet have a sponsor:

Professional Achievement Award
Award recognizes the lifetime of contributions and achievements in the vascular ultrasound profession.

Member First-Time Presenters Award
Award recognizes a current SVU member who is the primary author and first-time presenter of a scientific paper presented at the Annual Conference.

Excellence in a Case Study Poster Presentation
Case reports of rare or unusual findings, either normal or pathologic, will be considered for presentation.

If your chapter is interested in sponsoring one or more of these awards, please contact Frankie Hamme @ fhamme@svunet.org.

SVU AFFILIATED CHAPTER PROFILE
RED RIVER VALLEY VASCULAR SOCIETY

In 1980, Rolf Paulson, MD, gathered together the 3-5 vascular technologists in the state to meet and exchange ideas and information. We have had our ups and downs regarding membership and interest in our chapter. The past several years, we started meeting annually and have had fairly successful meetings. We have managed to retain about 30 members with meeting attendance averaging 50 individuals. Most of our members reside in North Dakota or Minnesota.

What I believe makes us unique is each year our faithful members travel an average of 200 miles…one way!....to attend a Friday evening and all day Saturday meeting. We are also very proud that all of us are either RVT and/or work in an ICAVL accredited lab.

We have been blessed with support from our local equipment vendors and physicians. Their monetary support has enabled us to invite many national speakers to our meetings. This has been very beneficial to our members as many are not able to attend the SVU Annual Conference. Although the President plans the meeting, the program agenda continues to be a team effort of both officers and members. I think our success is related to educational opportunities plus networking.

Although most of the founding members are still involved, we have new members as President and Secretary this year. We are very excited to have them involved. If you would like to attend our next meeting, please contact one of our officers:

RRVVS is a sponsor of SVU’s Annual Conference and proud to be a 2007 recipient of the SVU Outstanding Chapter Award.
