SVU Advocacy Committee Update Session to be held in San Diego

On Friday, June 6th, during SVU’s 2008 Annual Conference in San Diego, the SVU Advocacy Committee will present an Update session on various legislative and regulatory advocacy issues affecting the vascular ultrasound profession.

Dave Parlato, Chair of the SVU Advocacy Committee, will moderate the annual conference session with the following speakers and their topics:

  • Anne Jones, RN BSN RVT RDMA FSVU, will provide an update on the status of the CARE Bill in the second session of the 110th Congress. The bill is strongly supported by the Alliance for Quality Imaging and Radiation Therapy, of which SVU is a member. Anne also will discuss the latest efforts of the Coalition for Quality in Ultrasound (CQU) on the need to include technologist credentialing and/or lab accreditation in the various state local coverage determinations (LCDs)
  • Michael Lilly, MD, will provide an update of the latest efforts in Oregon to pass a medical imaging licensure bill in 2009 that also would impact vascular technologists. SVU is a participant in the Sonography Licensure Coalition (SLC) that is meeting with various medical and state legislature groups to make sure that the vascular ultrasound profession is properly represented in the development of the bill for consideration by the Oregon legislature in 2009.
  • Cliff Sales, MD, will present an update in the Fistula First Breakthrough Initiative with CMS.
  • Robert Zwolak, MD, who is Chair of the SVS Government Relations Committee, will present an update on the impact to date on the Medicare cuts on the ultrasound profession as a result of the DRA. SVS and SVU will be doing a joint member survey soon on the impact of the DRA cuts on their members and their vascular labs. Dr. Zwolak also will speak on the SAAAVE Act that was included in the DRA.

SVU will continue to report on these various legislative and regulatory advocacy efforts in the monthly e-Spectrum newsletter, on the SVU website and by broadcast email. Thank you for you support of SVU’s advocacy efforts on behalf of the entire vascular ultrasound profession.
